La Guerra Civil dels Estats Units, Guerra Civil Nort-americana o Guerra de Secessió dels Estats Units,[1] fon un conflicte bèlic ocorregut entre 1861 i 1865 entre vint-i-tres estats del nort dels Estats Units i una coalició d'onze estats del sur que van declarar-ne la independència i el dret a la secessió. Els onze estats del Sur partidaris de l'esclavitut declararen la secessió dels Estats Units i van formar els Estats Confederats d'Amèrica (la Confederació). Liderats per Jefferson Davis, van lluitar contra els Estats Units d'Amèrica (la Unió o el Nort), que tenia el soport de tots els estats lliures i els cinc estats esclavistes fronterers.
