Deutsch: Neuseeländische Alpen (Luftaufnahme). Das Gebirge erstreckt sich auf der Südinsel mit einer Breite von ca. 50 Kilometer und mit einer Länge von 360 Kilometer. Das teilweise vergletscherte Gebirge weist 17 markante Gipfel mit einer Höhe von über 3,000 Meter ü. M. auf. Die höchste Erhebung ist der Mount Cook (Māori „Aoraki“) mit 3.724 Meter ü. M. Das nahezu unzugängliche Gebirge kann von Touristen durch Rundflüge erkundet werden.
English: New Zealand Alps (aerial view). The mountains extend on the South Island with a width of approx. 50 kilometers and with a length of 360 kilometers. The partially glaciated mountains have 17 striking peaks with a height of over 3,000 meters above sea level. M. on. The highest point is Mount Cook (Māori "Aoraki") at 3,724 meters above sea level. The almost inaccessible mountains can be explored by tourists by sightseeing flights.
