Heteromeryx
Heteromeryx és un gènero extint dels artiodàctils, de la família Protoceratidae, endèmic d'Amèrica del Nort en el Eoceno entre fa 40.2—33.9 millons d'anys.[1]
Taxonomia
editarHeteromeryx va ser nomenat per Matthew (1905). El seu espècie tipo és Heteromeryx dispar. Va ser assignat a la família Protoceratidae per Matthew (1905), Carroll (1988), Prothero (1998) i Prothero i Ludtke (2007).[2][3][4]
Morfologia
editarHeteromeryx s'assemblava a un cérvol. A pesar d'això estava més estretament relacionat en els camélidos. Ademés de tindre banyes en el lloc més usual, els posseïa també en el rostre, sobre la seua cavitat orbitaria.
Massa corporal
editarEls tres #espècimen de fòssils de Prosynthetoceras varen ser medits per M. Mendoza, C. M. Janis, i P. Palmqvist.[5]
- Espècimen 1: 42.9 kg (95 lb)
- Espècimen 2: 46.1 kg (100 lb)
- Espècimen 3: 31.7 kg (70 lb)

- Dirty Creek Ridge Site, Sioux County, Nebraska.
- French Creek Site, Custer County, Dakota del Sur.
