La caraguatá, karaguata, planta got o penca chuza (Aechmea distichantha) és una bromeliácea típica del Tancat en Brasil, nativa del nort d'Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay i el sur de Bolívia. És freqüentment usada com ornamental. El ganado menja l'inflorescència i la raïl.

Descripció

Té hàbits terrestre, podent ser una epífita facultativa. Té us facultatiu en medicina natural, actuant en els chacras 3° i 4° [1]

Taxonomia

Aechmea distichantha va ser descrita per Charles Antoine Lemaire i publicat en Jardin Fleuriste 3: t. 269, f. 1853.

Etimologia

Aechmea: nom genèric que deriva del grec akme ("punta"), en alusió als picos rígits en els que està equipat el cáliz.
