Florotanino

Ecol, un florotanino

Un florotanino és un tipo de tanino trobat en algues del phyllum Phaeophyta (algues pardas)[1] com els sargazos.[2] Al contrari dels taninos hidrolisables o condensados, estos composts són oligómeros del floroglucinol[3] (polifloroglucinoles).[4] Els florotaninos es classifiquen en fuhaloles, floretoles, fucoles, fucofloretoles, ecoles i carmaloles.

Eixemples d'estos composts són el fucodifloretol G de l'alga Ecklonia cava,[5] l'ecol aïllat d'espècies de Ecklonia[6] o el florofucofuroecol-B de Eisenia arborea.[7]


Es desconeix la raó per la que les algues pardas produïxen florotaninos.Estos composts poden tindre un paper important en la defensa de l'organisme, en la dinàmica dels seus recursos,[8] com secuestrantes de metals,[9] com a protecció contra la llum o radiació UV[10] o com alguicidas contra dinoflagelados.[11]
