Sphenosaurus
Sphenosaurus és un gènero poc conegut de procolofónido, un tipo de reptil prehistòric del Pérmico tardà Buntsanstein d'Alemània.[1] Originalment se li va ser assignat el nom Palaeosaurus sternbergii, pel paleontòlec alemà Leopold Joseph Fitzinger en 1840, el nom genèric ya estava preocupat per no un sino atres dos reptils als que se'ls va assignar el nom Palaeosaurus.[2][3] En 1847, Hermann von Meyer va reconéixer els usos originals de 1833 i 1836 de Palaeosaurus[4] i va traslladar a P. sternbergii a un nou gènero, Sphenosaurus.[5]
