El Fanerozoico és el quarto i últim eón i eonotema de l'escala temporal geològica que s'estén des de fa uns 539 millons d'anys fins als nostres dies.[2] Succeïx al eón Proterozoico del supereón Precámbrico, que comprén el temps restant des de la formació de la Terra. El seu nom deriva del grec (φανερός phanerós «visible», ζῷον zôon «ser viu») i significa «vida visible», referint-se al tamany dels organismes que sorgixen en esta época. Molt abans d'este eón ya existia vida en la Terra, no obstant és durant este periodo quan els organismes vivents ya prenen formes complexes, evolucionen i es diversifican àmpliament.[3][4]
Geològicament, el Fanerozoico s'inicia poc despuix de la desintegració del supercontinente Pannotia. En el temps, els continents es tornen a agrupar en un atre supercontinente, Pangea. Per últim, este es disgrega originant els continents actuals.
Llímit Proterozoico-Fanerozoico
[editar | editar còdic]El llímit Proterozoico- Fanerozoico està en uns 539 millons d'anys.[2] En el XIX, el llímit es va establir en el moment de l'aparició dels primers fòssils animals abundants (metazoos), pero s'han identificat varis centenars de grups (tàxons) de metazoos del eón anterior, el Proterozoico, des de que va començar l'estudi sistemàtic d'eixes formes. en la década de 1950.[5][6]
Subdivisions
[editar | editar còdic]El Fanerozoico es dividix en tres eres i eratemas: Paleozoico, Mesozoico i Cenozoico, que antigament es denominaven, respectivament, eres Primària, Secundària i Terciaria (el Cuaternario, una quarta era, està hui inclós en el Cenozoico com a periodo).
